The Wildcats were not outclassed on Wednesday night by any means, as they stood toe to toe with Duke for a half. The score was 29 all at halftime.
But at the beginning of the second half, the Wildcats went six minutes without scoring. The Blue Devils scored just twelve points during that stretch, too. It was not exactly a monster streak of points for the nation's top ranked team, but it was the real way that Duke pulled away and won the game.
The Wildcats managed to basically shut down Seth Curry and Mason Plumlee. The Blue Devils two best players scored just 16 total points on 7 of 18 shooting. Plumlee did collect seven rebounds, but also turned the ball over six times. Jake Cohen had a great performance, scoring 19 of the 50 points the Wildcats scored.
The other huge thing for the Wildcats in this one was that they came up with twelve offensive rebounds. They came up with the same number of rebounds as Duke, which is really impressive considering that not that long ago, the Wildcats were outrebounded by 26.
So what did we learn about Davidson? Not a ton. They are a good team, but maybe not a team capable of doing much more than winning the SoCon. Are they the favorite in the SoCon? Absolutely. But there are several teams in contention in the SoCon that can compete with Davidson.
But Davidson is very good. They can take away a team's best scorer. They seem to have the rebounding problem fixed. They are good offensive team.
Look out.....
