--I predicted Wofford to beat Furman and came within an eyelash of picking Georgia Southern to upset Davidson. Still, the South race is completely different as of this Tuesday morning. Davidson and College of Charleston are now tied at 4-1 atop the division with a game this weekend. No other team in the division has more than one win. Wofford is 1-3 with a win over Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern is 1-3 with a win over Davidson. Furman is 1-3 with a win over Wofford. The Citadel is 0-5, in semi-heartbreaking fashion, having lost the last three games against Chattanooga, Samford, and College of Charleston in close games. Who wins the South? Clearly it is either College of Charleston or Davidson. Does any other team challenge for a bye? Not unless they get going. Seriously, two weeks ago, who would have thought Furman would be tied with Wofford in the SoCon standings at this point? There was a whopping 0% of the people that picked Davidson to lose to Georgia Southern in the SoCon Pick 'Em. Oops.
--The North race is not as crazy right now, but still was interesting on Monday night. Western Carolina got beat at home by Elon for their first SoCon loss. They are now tied in the loss column with Appalachian State (who beat UNCG on Monday night) and Samford. The Bulldogs and Mountaineers were populalry considered among the worst in the conference heading into SoCon play. Now, here they are. Elon may still be the favorite following their win over Western Carolina.
--Western-Elon summary from Purple & Gold here. From the Elon Pendulum here. The key news in those pieces is that Tom Tankelewicz (a hot shooter who averages ten points per game) has been declared academically ineligible and is out indefinitely.
--The bye race is also very interesting. Right now, there are five teams with one loss (Davidson, College of Charleston, Western Carolina, Appalachian State, Samford). Only four can receive a bye. There are two other teams that have two SoCon losses (Elon, Chattanooga). The games since last Thursday have really turned the bye race upside down.
--SoCon Pick 'Em pick for Wofford-UNCG is due tonight. Picks for Thursday's games are due on Wednesday. Good luck.
