The Mocs were up 17-10 in the middle of the first half, but then couldn't find much in the way of offense for the remainder of the half, and gave up a three at the buzzer, to be behind five at the half. The Mocs then scored the first five of the second half to tie the game, but then couldn't do much offensively for a while, and fell behind.
The key to the game was that the Mocs were simply not able to rebound against the Yellow Jackets. They couldn't come up with the big rebound, and it cost them dearly.
Considering the Yellow Jackets superb defense, the Mocs eFG of 47% was pretty solid. Farad Cobb snapped out of his slump a bit. He was tied for the team lead in points with 14. He needs to keep it going as the Mocs continue forward. Z Mason also scored 14. The announcers mentioned that he has NBA talent. That is a question for another day.
Mason and Cobb were both good on offense in the first half. Foul trouble got them onto the bench. That was when they started struggling on the offensive end. Jared Bryant made some nice moves in the first half. Bryant looked as good as he has looked the whole year.
The Mocs played hard, and showed some grit. They did not rebound well. They will need to continue to show the toughness and the grit to be able to win some SoCon games. The Mocs are hardly the team to beat, but they are improving.
The Mocs offense continues to show improvement. I continue to see problems on the defensive end. The Mocs will need to be better on the defensive side of the ball if they are going to stop the best SoCon offenses. I like what I see out of the offense right now, even with their struggles for large portions of this game.
I'm very interested to see what the Mocs do in these next 17 SoCon games. This is a chance for the Mocs to start winning some games.
GO MOCS!
