Double Dribbles-2-7-12

1) Wow. How much is Appalachian State struggling? Get ready for this, because it will blow your mind. Ike Butts and Omar Carter combined for seven points against Elon on Monday night. Yes, the Omar Carter that averaged over 16 points per game last year and was the preseason SoCon Player of the Year this year. Butts was the reason people were high on the Mountaineers this year, because they thought his return would put them over the top combined with Carter. Now, neither are starting and they combined for seven points in a 23 point loss to Elon. For the Phoenix, they have probably turned into the favorite in the North, but their road trip against Samford and Chattanooga will go a long way to determining whether they can hold up that end of the deal or not.

2) Georgia Southern and Wofford are in a race for second and third that got a lot more interesting on Monday night. With the Eagles win over Furman, the Paladins are now three games behind Georgia Southern for second and two games behind Wofford for third. That means that the Eagles and Terriers are the only two with a real shot at getting the second bye from the South. If Wofford wins on Thursday, they will move into a tie with Georgia Southern, and will own the tiebreaker. If Georgia Southern wins, they will be up two games on Wofford with just five games to play. Thursday's game is massive.
