ANALYSIS

The Mocs hung around nearly all night long. They fell behind early 7-0, but then came back to take a seven point lead later in the first half, before falling behind by twelve at the half. The Mocs were in the game the entire second half, but could not pull off the upset.

The biggest flaws for the Mocs were two areas that do not look too bad on paper. The Mocs only turned the ball over twelve times, and gave up thirteen offensive rebounds and was outrebounded by eight. Neither of those are terrible stats. However, it seemed like at critical moments throughout the second half, the Mocs turned the ball over or gave up a key offensive rebound.

The Mocs did not have a perfect game by any means, whereas the Vols played very well. They looked about as good as they have in recent weeks. They made thirteen three pointers. That is a bunch of threes, and the Mocs did not have an answer to that. Trae Golden scored 29, while Skylar McBee scored 16. They combined to shoot 9 of 20 from three point range as well.

Honestly, only four guys for the Mocs really played well tonight. They were Keegan Bell, Omar Wattad, Drazen Zlovaric, and Ricky Taylor. Jahmal Burroughs was OK, but Dontay Hampton, Lance Stokes, Rico White, Jared Bryant, and Z Mason all were not at their best tonight.

In some ways, that's comforting. The Mocs were not playing their best basketball, Tennessee was playing well, and the Mocs still hung around the entire night.

It's important to remember that College of Charleston beat Tennessee at home in a reasonably close game in a game that the Cougars clearly brought everything they had, as evidenced by how the team reacted when they won. Tennessee is not a great team, but they are an OK team.

The Mocs really are in must win mode for the next three home games against Western Carolina, Appalachian State, and Wofford. This is a massively huge next week and a half for the Mocs. They are still not where they need to be, but if they can come up with wins in their next three SoCon games, the Mocs can get right back into good shape.

GO MOCS!
