1) Davidson ranks third in the country in free throw percentage, shooting over 80% from the line. This is how the Wildcats will win so many of their close conference battles. When a team shoots over 80% from the free throw line, they are not going to blow a lot of late leads and they are going to win a lot of very close games. Not only are the Wildcats more talented and smarter than most teams in the league (not more athletic, but more talented), they are a better free throw shooting team than most. They are going to win plenty of games in SoCon games.
2) Speaking of free throw shooting, Nik Cochran of Davidson ranks first in the country in free throw shooting at 94.3%. Davidson's Jake Cohen ranks 3oth in the country in free throw shooting at 88%. Western Carolina's Trey Sumler is third in the country in free throw shooting at 94.2%. The SoCon has some of the country's best free throw shooters. Not the most exciting stat in the world, but one of the most important to consistently winning basketball games.
