SoCon Monster Game of the Week- Appalachian State 68, Samford 63

Samford's Tyler Hood was held to four points, and that really slowed down the Bulldogs. Drew Windler lead the team with 15, and Jeffrey Merritt had 14.

The Mountaineers Omar Carter had 17 points and eight rebounds, showing that maybe he could still get into the SoCon Player of the Year race. Nathan Healy also scored 14 points and had eight rebounds off the bench.

The Mountaineers shot a stunning 54% from the field. Samford made just 26.1% of their three pointers. This is why Appalachian State won the game.

The Mountaineers turned the ball over 19 times. This is their biggest weakness. They turn the ball over too much. This could take Appalachian State down eventually in the SoCon North race. The good news for Appalachian State is now that they are 2-1 in the SoCon, and are now tied with Western Carolina and Elon for the division lead.  They have a huge game in Chattanooga on Saturday.

Samford is 0-2 in SoCon play. They have lost two games by a total of nine points. They head to The Citadel on January 7, who is 0-4 in SoCon play. This is a huge opportunity for both Bulldogs to come up with a win in SoCon play. This might be the most important game for Samford. They really need to come up with a win on Saturday. They need to shoot better to have a shot to win consistently in SoCon play. The Mountaineers shot over 50% against them, and the Bulldogs still only lost by five. Their best offensive weapon in recent weeks was held to four points- and they lost by five. In some ways, this was not a bad showing by Samford.
