1) Someone please put Samford out of their misery. They nearly beat Western Carolina over the weekend, which was nice and all, but their game against Texas-San Antonio on Monday night ended with a 22 point home loss. A 22 point home loss to a team from the Southland? Not acceptable. Admittedly, this team lost by five to Oklahoma State in overtime, so maybe the loss is not as bad as I think. But I expected Samford to win that game. But they did not even compete. The Bulldogs were picked to finish last in the division in the preseason, and it is getting harder and harder to imagine that they do any better than that.
2) Time to start gearing up for round one of the battle for an at large bid. Davidson plays a critical home game against Vanderbilt on Wednesday night at 7:00. The Wildcats need to win at least one of these two games against Vanderbilt and Kansas to get into the at large discussion for the NCAA Tournament. This a great opportunity for the SoCon and a great opportunity for Davidson. Charleston has their own set of two games in this battle. They host Tennessee and go to Louisville. The next couple of weeks will be very interesting in this regard. Everyone in the conference should be paying attention to these four games. It's the most important games in a while for the SoCon in out of conference games. Both teams need to make sure they don't blow it in the mean time against an out of conference opponent they should beat.
