Double Dribbles- 12-5-11

1) Georgia Southern beat the two preseason North favorites at home this weekend when they beat Chattanooga and Appalachian State. Their eight point win over Chattanooga was impressive, as the Eagles got a big lead, watched it get cut down, and then would put it back away. However, their eleven point win over Appalachian State may have been even more impressive. The Eagles jumped out to a 20 point halftime lead and cruised home from there. The Eagles had been disappointing in the first part of the year, but showed why they were picked to finish third in the division in the preseason in this weekend's games. They are a real threat to be a contender in the South if either College of Charleston or Davidson let up. Third is more realistic, but it is very realistic.

2) Wofford has traded wins and losses so far this year, never winning or losing more than one in a row. Their close loss to Davidson last Thursday served notice that they were going to be a tough out in the South. Then they walloped The Citadel by 19 on Saturday. College of Charleston, one of the two best teams in the SoCon nearly universally, only beat The Citadel by 20. Wofford is again showing they are an incredibly dangerous team. The race for third in the South is incredibly compelling, with both Wofford and Georgia Southern making huge statements this weekend. Furman did not make that kind of statement, but they are not a bad team. The South is again showing why they are better than the North.
