The Saintly Stuff- Best Case Scenario

Yesterday's worst case scenario was awful. I'm still feeling a little sick about it.

Yesterday was Halloween...or All Hallowed's Eve. Traditionally it developed as the day before the Catholic holy day, All Saints Day. I'm not into politics or religion particularly on this blog- that's best left for other areas. But as a Catholic, I appreciate All Saints Day. So today is the perfect day to consider the best case scenario for the Mocs this year.

1) Farad Cobb is not only the best freshman in the SoCon- he is in the running for 1st Team All SoCon. I continue to maintain that this team has a lot of potential if the young point guard produces big numbers. Cobb is one of the most heralded freshman to enter Chattanooga in a while. I don't know if the anticipation is because of how good he is, or because the Mocs fans are so eager to find a new superstar to believe in. If Cobb turns out to be a superstar to believe in all year long, the Mocs could be very good.

2) The Z Men combine to average 27 points and 15 rebounds. Drazen Zlovaric and Z Mason are good enough to be huge contributors for this team. They'll need to be. If the two of them can dominate down low,  and combine that with Cobb being even better than expected (which is saying something), the Mocs will be a force to be reckoned with all year long.

3) The Mocs start 5-1 and gains tremendous confidence. That four game stretch against Southeast Missouri, Louisiana Tech, Troy, and Kennesaw State would be a rousing success if the Mocs swept it. If they do that, the young Mocs confidence could soar. The fan base would be energized. Suddenly, when Davidson comes calling on December 1, there would be a lot of really positive energy surrounding the program. That could propel the Mocs to an early upset of the Wildcats, and from there, who knows? (Of course, as I said last night, if these four games go well or go poorly- it doesn't matter in the long run. It just matters if the Mocs can have positive energy in January and February in the long run.)

4) Gee McGhee, Eric Robertson, Rico White, and Casey Jones shoot very well from three point range. The Mocs need their wings to shoot the ball well. If the Mocs pound the ball inside to the Z Men and succeed there, that will open up some outside looks. If they can knock down some open looks, this team could be almost unstoppable offensively.

Overall, if all these things happened (and the Mocs play solid defense to boot), the Mocs should be able to contend in the SoCon this year, and maybe even win the North. If they won the North, they will be a serious contender in Asheville. Let's face it- that's where it matters most. They need to get that bye- and I think they can, if they get some of this stuff to break their way this year.

GO MOCS!
