Three Point Play

1) What does BracketBuster Saturday mean? For the SoCon, it means 5-0. No- this does not put any team into the Bubble Watch or anything, unless College of Charleston and their current RPI (according to live-rpi.com) of 63 somehow find their way onto the soft bubble. But what it does do is it helps the whole SoCon move up in national perception and in the conference RPI. Again according to live-rpi.com, the SoCon is up to #20 in the conference rank, just a nose behind the Northeast Conference and the Summit League. What does that mean? It means that if College of Charleston loses in the SoCon Tournament and does not receive the automatic bid, there is a good chance that if that team is Western Carolina, Chattanooga, Davidson, Furman, or Wofford, that they will maybe not receive a #16 seed. We'll have to wait and see.

2) Georgia Southern got their first SoCon win of the year in brilliant fashion. The Eagles turned the ball over just five times, and that was the key to the Eagles win. Again, there is no way that they catch The Citadel in the SoCon South, but there is little doubt that they are currently playing better than the Bulldogs. If Georgia Southern could somehow beat Elon and/or UNC-Greensboro at home this week, then the Eagles will have some real positive momentum heading into the first round of the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga. Not sure that The Citadel has a shot in their first round game with how they are playing.

3) Samford's loss to Furman was equally painful. The Bulldogs allowed a 15-1 run to end the game and missed a statement victory. The Paladins are right in the thick of the bye race as they come to Chattanooga on Monday night, and Samford is pretty much locked into the six seed out of the North now. The Bulldogs are not a terrible team, but they are not a good team either. They are going to be looking for some positive momentum when they head to College of Charleston and battle Chattanooga at home this weekend. And, yes, I think THEY have a better shot to win their first round game than The Citadel. That even includes that The Citadel will be playing either Elon or UNC-Greensboro, while Samford will be playing either Wofford or Furman.
