Does the Georgia Tech game this Wednesday matter?
One could certainly argue that it does not. After all, Georgia Tech is not a SoCon team, and it will not count in the conference standings.
But it does count in the overall record. If the Mocs win this game, it may help their seeding in the NCAA Tournament, if they manage to get that far.
With all the illness on the team last week, they can certainly use a game to get back to game speed and get their legs under them as well.
So, yes, this game matters. Does winning matter? Maybe- maybe not. But it certainly does mattter. It is impossible to ignore this game for the two reasons listed above.
But the beauty of this game is that the Mocs are only playing one game in a nine day span. And this is it. So there is no reason to rest anyone. They have plenty of time to rest. There's no reason to relax and not give it their all. This game is all there is. It's kind of like a Bracket Buster game in its own right.
The Mocs could use a win over a very average Georgia Tech suffering from an injury to a starter. And the Yellow Jackets lost to Kennesaw State this year, a team the Mocs beat on the road. Of course, Georgia Tech also beat North Carolina, just one of two ACC teams to do that. So, they have been up and down.
The Mocs can win this game. It sure would be nice to be competitive against an ACC team. Honestly, I think the Mocs will play better given the fact that they have not won their last couple of games. They will play better because the illness has them itching to play a good game. And they will try to win. I'm not sure Shulman would have gone hard core after this win if the Mocs had beaten Western and/or Appy. But thank to the flu, the Mocs are going to go after this one.
That's what I think anyway.
GO MOCS!
