Three Point Play

1) The Citadel lost to Savannah State on Monday night. A team that just two weeks ago looked like a darkhorse to make a run at a SoCon Tournament title behind Cameron Wells is now looking more and more like a team that could be one and done. The Bulldogs are not good. They don't look good. They have basically locked up the five seed from the South, which means they could easily be battling UNC-Greensboro (the current number four from the North) in the first round- a team that hammered them last week in Greensboro. Ugh.

2) The next two days feature two ACC-SoCon games, and I don't completely discount the SoCon teams from taking either one of them. Georgia Tech is not playing well right now and the Mocs will have a chance against them if they play really good basketball. But tonight's game between UNC-Greensboro and Miami is also a shot for the SoCon to fire a shot at the ACC. The Spartans played Clemson and Wake Forest very tight earlier in the year, showing signs of life. Miami is not unbeatable. Now that the Spartans are playing with more confidence, having won several games over the last month and a half, they could take out an ACC team.

3) Right now is about getting hot in the SoCon's final weeks before playing in the SoCon Tournament. Lots of teams have a real shot to get hot and gain momentum heading to Chattanooga. Davidson is the current hot team. But The Citadel was the hot team just a couple of weeks ago, and now they've lost it. Appalachian State, with all of their home games left, look like a team that is getting hot, and if they can sneak into a bye spot, they can make some real noise in the tournament.
