Mocs Clinch Bye

With Western Carolina's upset win over Appalachian State, the Mocs have clinched a first round bye in the SoCon Tournament, as has Western Carolina, as well. The problem? The Catamounts also now own the tiebreaker over the Mocs at the moment. They are in first place with just three games left. They have to go to UNC-Greensboro, and then play The Citadel and College of Charleston at home, while the Mocs have Furman and Wofford at home and Samford on the road.

Western Carolina
Remaining Home Opponents in SoCon Play: 18-12
Remaining Road Opponents in SoCon Play: 5-9
Total Record: 23-21

Chattanooga
Remaining Home Opponents in SoCon Play: 23-8
Remaining Road Opponents in SoCon Play: 4-11
Total Record: 27-19

So the Mocs have a tougher road the rest of the way- mainly because of the home games. Will College of Charleston be ready to play against Western Carolina in the final regular season game, when the Cougars are likely to have clinched the number seed already? That could play a huge role in who wins the North.

All in all, this is good for the Mocs. They needed to get a bye. Since no team has ever won the tournament with four games in four days, the Mocs needed to get the bye badly to have a chance. And they did it.

After their start it would be a major disappointment to not win the North. I tend to think that if they take care of business the rest of the way, they will win the division. But they have to win all three of them. It's going to be very tough. Not sure if they can do it or not.

GO MOCS!
