1) One week is left to determine everything in the SoCon races. Really there are only three spots left undecided. The 1/2 spot in the North is up for grabs between Western Carolina and Chattanooga. The 2/3 spot in the South is between Furman and Wofford. The 4/5 spot in the North is down to between Elon and UNCG. Those are the biggest battles for spots left in the SoCon Tournament. Should be an interesting week as we sort those out.
2) Tonight, all three of the above mentioned races start being sorted out. Western Carolina goes to UNCG, in a game that both teams have to have. Also, Chattanooga hosts Furman, in a game both teams need badly. Samford also visits College of Charleston, as the Cougars look to clinch the South with a win over the Bulldogs. So, tonight should be a very good night of basketball. UNCG has a free webcast of the game, and the Mocs game is obviously available on Chattanooga All-Access- for you Mocs fans out there.
3) The 20th ranked conference is a nice start and 5-0 yesterday was very nice. On the whole, the conference went 5-3 out of conference last week. It wasn't a bad week for the SoCon on the whole, and it probably helps their national perception- at least to some degree. College of Charleston is starting to sneak to the periphery of the at-large discussion. They have an RPI of 62- higher than Virginia Tech's at the moment, a team almost everyone includes in the bubble talk. Yes the Cougars are a major longshot for an at large bid. But if they win their next four games and then get upset by, say, Chattanooga in the title game by a point, then the Cougars RPI may be in the low 40s. That is probably too low to have a legit claim to an at-large, but they will probably get mentioned in the Selection room, which makes them at least an interesting team.
