Western Carolina Preview: Importance of Winning at Home

For a full preview, click here. There's no reason to dive into match-ups again. Let's look at some other aspects, just like I've done in the past with previews of games that have been the SoCon Game of the Week.

It's important to win at home. We all know that. The Mocs have been good at home.

But with this game moved to Friday night from Thursday night due to the weather, what does that mean for the home court advantage?

I have been a proponent of playing games on Friday night in the SoCon. I think it could draw more national attention to the conference as a whole. But the problem is that this is not one of those Fridays.

This Friday is Valentine's Day (that means it's time to go buy a present everyone). Will Chattanoogans show up and support their home team on Valentine's Day night or will they be out to dinner and not showing up to the game?

The Mocs need to get fans in the stands and turn this into a home court advantage. This game is so important to the Mocs. A win would guarantee that they would not finish behind The Citadel, Furman, Appalachian State, Samford, or Georgia Southern, and could finish no worse than tied with UNCG (who currently sits in sixth). That would almost clinch a bye for the Mocs. That's what they can gain with a win over Western Carolina.

On top of that, a win over Western Carolina would put the Mocs up two and a half games up on the Catamounts and one and a half over Wofford, along with two over Elon. Given that the Mocs are in major need of finishing in the top three and avoiding  playing Davidson (more than likely) until the final, if they make it that far. So the Mocs need to get back into solid position for that.

The Mocs can get all that with a win.

It's important for the Mocs to keep on winning at home. It's crucial. This is one of the most important games of the Mocs season to date. I hope the fans are there to see it.

GO MOCS!
