--Elon fell to Duke on Thursday night. WHAT?!?! How could the Phoenix drop a game to a team like Duke? Of course, I am being sarcastic. The Phoenix were down single digits at halftime. That's something to be proud of for Elon considering that it was a road game and against the number one team in the country. Elon is really showing they are one of the better teams in the SoCon.
--Western Carolina's trip to Tennessee does not look like a likely win for the Catamounts. I'm sure I'm about to be told how the Catamounts played Illinois close and were not blown out by Georgetown. The fact is that they match up relatively well with the Vols. The Vols don't score a lot of points. Western may be able to hang with them. Here's Purple & Gold's preview.
--Lots of teams with chances to win on Saturday- Davidson against Drexel, UNCG against Wake Forest, College of Charleston against Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State against Presbyterian, Georgia Southern against Mississippi Valley State, Furman against Jacksonville, and Elon against Columbia all have decent chances to win. Wofford against Xavier and The Citadel against Georgia Tech are the only teams really unlikely to win. A 6-3 day on Saturday would be huge for the SoCon and could move them up quite a bit in the RPI.
--Two things to look forward to: 1) Scanning the SoCon this week will have a look at who the best players and coaches in the conference are to this point in the year, and our predicted order of finish in the SoCon races this year, with everyone participating and 2) SoCon Pick 'Em is coming at the turn of the year and I will begin really promoting this in the coming weeks- I really look forward to it!
