Daily Dribbles-12-19-12

--Davidson's Jake Cohen won the SoCon Player of the Week Award. He scored 21 points in the Wildcats win over UNCW. He was the first Davidson player to win the award this year.

--Wow. Solid night for the SoCon. Wofford dominated Jacksonville, 94-52, on the road. This is one of the better wins for the SoCon this year. Sure, Jacksonville is not that good, but winning by 42 points on the road is always very impressive. The SoCon is now 3-3 against the Atlantic Sun on the year.

--On top of that College of Charleston beat Old Dominion at home, 76-65. This made the SoCon 3-2 on the year against the CAA. Ummmm.....huh? Considering how bad the SoCon has been this year, the fact that they have a winning record against the CAA is stunning.

--The lone blemish on the SoCon's record on Tuesday was Furman's loss to Wake Forest. That's not too bad for the SoCon. If the SoCon is going to have a loss, this is an OK one. The Demon Deacons are not good, but this was an OK loss.

  1. I think WCU's Tankelewicz's numbers against a much better opponent, Georgetown, should have gotten him POW. He put up 24 points, was 8 of 14 in field goals, including 6 of 11 outside the 3 point arc; 2 for 2 at the free throw line; 4 rebounds - all offensive rebounds; and 2 assists. I realize that Western didn't win the game, but is was against the #15 team in the nation. The UNCW game was a give-me game for Davidson.

  2. Not a bad point. He could have won it- but the problem is the winning team syndrome. Normally the Player of the Week comes from a team that won a game or two. That's not always true- but with Cohen's numbers, I was OK with it....Tankelwicz would have been a valid choice, though.
