IN DEPTH

Tennessee: The Vols loss to Indianapolis in the preseason seems like a distant memory. They won the Preseason NIT over Villanova, and have a huge showdown at Pittsburgh this Saturday. Losing by 20 points seems a lot more understandable at this point. Belmont, Memphis, Oakland, and Pittsburgh are all in the Top 100 and ahead on the schedule, not to mentiona game with College of Charleston.

Austin Peay: The Governors lost a three point game to #58 Lipscomb on Tuesday night. This team is not that bad. They lost another three point game to Lipscomb already. They also lost to Purdue. They are 2-0 in the OVC. The Mocs play them again in a couple of weeks, just after New Years. A trip to Memphis awaits on the 16th.

Kennesaw State: Speaking of distant memories- it must seem like forever ago that this team beat Georgia Tech in their first D1 game of the year. There are no Top 100 games ahead on the schedule, at least out of conference. There are also none in the past at the moment. A trip to SIU-Edwardsville is ahead on Saturday- RealTimeRPI picks them to lose that game to an 0-9 team. Ouch.

Marshall: The Thundering Herd beat Ohio, FIU, and Jackson State. That is two Top 100 RPI teams. Their lone loss (other than the Mocs) was to Louisville. St. Bonaventure is ahead out of conference for the Herd. This may be the best win of the year for the Mocs to date- and it may stay that way all year long. This win is only going to look better and better the more Marshall wins- so as strange as it may sound- GO HERD!

Louisville: The Cardinals beat Butler, Jackson State, and Marshall as Top 100 teams out of conference. Other than that, the Mocs are way better than any other team on their schedule. The Cardinals have UNLV, Drexel, and Kentucky ahead as Top 100 out of conference opponents. Can the Cardinals continue to impress? This game against UNLV will be a very interesting one.

Jackson State: Already, the Tigers have played four teams in the Top 100. They beat the Mocs and FIU, and lost to the Nebraska and TCU as non-Top 100 opponents. They have not beaten a Top 100 team yet. They also have only played one home game- against FIU. They have four more road games before their next home game. They have no more Top 100 teams on their whole schedule.

FIU: The Golden Panthers are the second lowest ranked team on the Mocs schedule so far- and delivered the second largest margin of defeat. Ouch. No excuses. Sam Houston State is ahead on the out of conference schedule as a Top 100 team. Marshall, Louisville, and Jackson State were their first three games against the Top 100. Utah Valley is the Golden Panthers other win, and Utah Valley's RPI is 300. The Mocs should be embarassed by this loss that could easily haunt them for the rest of the year.

GO MOCS!
