A daily preview of each game.
Thursday Thought
Two really good games today. One is a match-up of two teams that currently are tied for third in the SoCon Power Rankings. One is a match-up between two teams that could conceivably make a run now that we are in SoCon play. Should be a great day of basketball and a great way to start the SoCon season.
UNCG at Western Carolina, 7:00 PM
The Spartans are lead by their inside game of Kayel Locke and Kyle Cain. Jordan Potts and Nicholas Paulos are very good three point shooters. They played well against their threesome of ACC foes with Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State. There are people that feel that the Spartans may be the best in the SoCon. Trey Sumler is one of the best scorers in the SoCon for Western Carolina. Tom Tankelwicz is very good three point shooter. Can the Catamounts defend their home court? How will they stop the Spartans big guys inside? Tawaski King may be the key to this game for that reason. King is one of the hardest workers in the SoCon. Prediction: Western Carolina 74, UNCG 70.
Wofford at Samford, 8:00 PM
These are two teams that have not yet performed up to expectations. This game is going to be really good. The Terriers have Karl Cochran and Spencer Collins take an inordinate amount the team's shots. Neither one are particularly good shooters. Lee Skinner is fourth in the SoCon in rebounding. The Terriers are a good defensive team even if they struggle offensively. Samford has not won back-to-back games all year against D1 teams. Can they win their second straight against Samford? They are not a good defensive team. So will Wofford be able to score against them? Tim Williams is in the top six in both scoring and rebounding. Williams vs. Skinner? That sounds like a good match-up. Prediction: Samford 63, Wofford 62.
