Keegan Bell has been battling a stomach bug, and is questionable for tonight's game. He has been receiving IV fluids.
What does this mean? Dontay Hampton will get more playing time regardless, I would believe. If Bell can't go, Hampton will see the majority of the minutes, with Omar Wattad getting the remainder of the minutes at the point guard spot. Hampton is clearly the best remaining option.
Josh Odem would have gotten a chunk of these minutes at point if he were still on the team, but he is not, so the Mocs do not have him to turn to.
Hampton has been good this year- better than expected to some degree. Of course, part of that has been that he has not been heavily relied on to be the star. He has done a nice job in key spots making big plays when necessary as a role player. Tonight will be his night to step up and make a big difference in a game.
Let's hope that his conditioning is up to par and that he can give 25+ solid minutes tonight if Bell is out. If Bell plays, the Mocs will still need to see more of Hampton because Bell is likely exhausted from his stomach bug.
Dontay Hampton just became the most important player in this game. The Mocs need this game. And Hampton could be one of the main reasons the Mocs win or lose.
GO MOCS!
