OK- so it's been over 24 hours since that pathetic loss to Austin Peay.
And I still don't feel any better.
Remember how I said a few days ago that the Mocs trip to UNCG was the most important game of the whole month?
Make no mistake- it has grown in importance by leaps and bounds in the last 27 hours or so.
This team may have their confidence shaken right now. I know that as a fan, my confidence is shaken. If the Mocs don't come out and instantly restore faith in themselves, then this season may spiral out of control and really get away from them. They need to beat UNCG.
If the Spartans lose to Samford this week prior to the Mocs game, that becomes especially true. Because the Spartans have not won a game yet. And the Mocs do not want to be their first victim. And make no mistake- the Spartans will claim victims. They are MUCH better than their record indicates, and are my pick to finish fourth in the North Division, at least at the moment.
The Mocs showed some positives against Austin Peay. They need to tell themselves that the problem is the 23.7% shooting and not other things (even if people believe there are other problems) and not let their confidence be shaken. They will not shoot that poorly again. (Right? RIGHT? RIGHT?????) They need to play better defense. They are rebounding well, even in defeat. They also made a bunch of free throws.
The Mocs need this one on Saturday more than ever after losing to Austin Peay in such humiliating fashion. This Saturday may be the key to the rest of the season.
GO MOCS!
