The Phoenix pulled off the win over the SEC team. They did it without Jack Isenbarger, who missed the game with a shoulder injury. They did it by taking a commanding eleven point lead and holding on.
No South Carolina player was able to crack double digits. They only turned the ball over seven times, but shot 31% from the field and an unbelievable 3 of 27 (11%) from three point range. They also shot just 59% from the free throw line.
Elon outrebounded South Carolina and shot 40% from the floor. They actually played exactly the way I thought they would when I predicted the Phoenix win yesterday. Lucas Troutman finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Austin Hamilton wound up with twelve points. Brett Ervin scored nine points off the bench on 3 of 4 shooting from three point range.
Elon's physical style really disturbed the Gamecocks. Spradlin scored just six points, and the Phoenix were still able to win the game. This just proves that the Phoenix are becoming a complete team and are a real threat to win the entire North Division. They are good enough to win the North over Chattanooga, Western Carolina, and Appalachian State.
They will battle Princeton and North Carolina State in the next ten days. Can the Phoenix pull off a few more wins?
This was a great day for the Phoenix.
