It All Begins Tonight!

The Mocs open with an exhibition game tonight against Tennessee-Wesleyan. I will not have any access to the game, since it is not broadcast on the internet and I am here in Kentucky with no access.

Regardless, this is an exciting day in Mocs basketball! The game shouldn't be overly interesting, and the game does not count in statistics or in the record, but it does matter. This is the beginning of a new era. With six guys gone from last year's team, this is the first time we get a chance to know anything in a game scenario about the new team. This team will be a total new look team, so there is plenty of reason to get excited about this game.

Tennessee Wesleyan should be a tougher battle than Virginia Intermont. Both are in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Tennessee Wesleyan is picked to finish second in the conference. Virignia Intermont is picked to finish ninth out of nine teams.

Tennessee Wesleyan lost by a point to Tennessee Temple, 74-73 on November 3. Tennessee Temple is a futre opponent for the Mocs as well.

Here's hoping that a big crowd turns out for the game tonight. Unfortunately, people will be distracted by the Appalachian State-Chattanoga football game that begins (in Boone) at 3:30. That means it will be ending just around the start of the exhibition game at 7:00. Then combine that with that the Alabama-LSU football game will just be wrapping up around 7, and the Tennessee-Memphis game kicks off at 7, and the makings of a small crowd for an exhibition game are there. Hopefully, I'm wrong, but we'll see.

The thing I'm most interested in tonight are if Bell, McKeither and Jefferson have dominant performances. They need to dominate in games like this. Also, some good three point shooting and free throw shooting would be nice to see, because that probably carries over against any D-1 team.

Basketball is back!
